Haunted Albany Oregon

Inside movie theater

Located south of the capital of Oregon, Albany has a few haunted tales to tell. I had no idea that the place had its fair share of hauntings in public places. There were two of them that I found interesting. Both of them interested me since I have visited both places.

First up is the site of the Albany Cinemas. They are part of the Regal Cinema chain and I go there often to see movies. The place is suppose to be haunted. According to the story, in the late 1970's a farmhouse next door to the theater complex was torn down to expand the cinema building. The two screens that were added are reported to be haunted. There is suppose to be a ghost of a small dog seen in the aisles and of lights moving across the floor. I don't remember experiencing anything odd when I go there but heck, in the dark and enjoying a good movie I would be hard pressed to be distracted. I'll ask the people who work there if they have heard of the ghost dog the next time I go to the movies.

Next is the Hereford Steer Restaurant. That place was reported to be haunted by the dead owner of the restaurant. He was reportedly shot by police. The story goes on to report that the former owner liked to play pranks on the people visiting the restaurant. But here is the problem, the story is a fake. The owner of the Hereford Steer Restaurant died in April 2011. He opened the restaurant in or around 1976 and it closed in 1997. The restaurant was torn down by the property owner in 2002 - it is still a vacant lot. I could find no local stories to back up the claims of the haunting.

So here is a lesson for all you would be investigators out there - don't believe everything you read online and if you do find something interesting try to find out the real truth.

Close to the casinos in Atlantic City is located the Absecon Lighthouse. The video below shows the owners before they called in the Ghost Hunters from the SyFy channel. They talk about sighting a creature they call the "Jersey Devil", a flying creature that is well known by the locals, that landed on the top of the lighthouse and someone tried to shoot it. You can go to the Ghost Hunters website to find out more about the investigation on the lighthouse, but check out the video first.

blood ritual

Am am sitting here and watching "Extreme Paranormal" on A&E. Normally the show does the regular paranormal investigating but as of late they are getting more bizarre in "provoking the spirits" as they put it. The latest is detailing and showing how to perform a "blood ritual" to get the spirits to react to them. So now they are showing low grade witchcraft to summon the dead! On the show prior to that one, they buried a member of the team in a coffin and then left him while the rest of the team wandered around in the woods.

Both of those instances, being shown in the guise of "entertainment" will backfire on the show, as there will be somebody watching it somewhere and will try to copy it....and perhaps get injured or killed in the process.

While I am on the subject of those poorly done ghost hunting shows, will someone tell them to turn on the damn lights? The lights are off for drama only. Ghosts don't care if the lights are on or off.
