Hot summer nights and the sounds they have
August 18th 2011 05:45
Warm summer nights mean sleeping later in the evening and leaving the windows wide open to let the cool night air in. It is during those warm still nights that people often hear things that they don't normally hear.
I was visiting some family members in Pennsylvania almost 20 years ago at the beginning of summer. It was during those warm evenings that they would tell me about the sounds that would come from the woods at the back of their home. They insisted on telling me about the wood cutter who could be heard chopping wood at 2am in the morning. You could only hear him in the warm summer nights. If someone live was cutting wood then they would be using a chainsaw and not the ax that these people kept claiming that they could hear.
The week I was there I did not hear the woodsman but the family that lived there swore they had heard him at least once a year in the wee hours of the morning.
