I love a good ghost story
October 15th 2010 21:22
Just because I try and look at paranormal events with a scientific approach does not mean I don't love a good ghost story. Add a splash of real history to the story and you have gotten me hooked.
What I like to see on TV are those haunted house investigation teams that are told the "history" of the house or location and then they do some real research on the location and find that there was no death or crime committed, unlike the "history" they were told.
Now for pure fictional fun, I like short stories like this one The night the paranormal investigation went horribly wrong
I am also a fan of E. A. Poe. His poem, The Raven seems to be more than what it pretends to be.

I was involved in one and I am, sort of, a witness to the other.
1. When I first moved to the town I am in now, a small place called McComb, Mississippi, I was looking for a place to rent. I didn't have much money, so I went for one of the least expensive places I could find. I found a large house (victorian style) that needed a little work done to it. The landlord said I could rent it for $250 mo if I agreed to make some of the repairs and clean it up after the last tennents left. I agreed.
When I entered the place, I immediately noticed two things. 1. The back door where I entered could only lock with the use of the key (the lock was key'd on both sides) and 2. The previous tennents left FAST! They left 3 televisions, a couch and love seat, curtains, clothing, food in the cabinets and the refrigerator as well as food on the table. NOT KIDDING. They left in a hurry.
Well, I knew this was strange enough, but it was only $250mo and I had already signed the lease. So, I began cleaning.
I thought I heard someone, a man's voice, say "Hey!" I assumed it was someone in the neighborhood, because it sounded like it came from outside. But I heard nothing else. No one answered. I looked outside and no one was there. I saw no one on the sidewalks. So, I chalked it up to me hearing things because the house looked so damn creepy.
A few hours pass and I have cleaned up one room enough that I could put my bed inside and would be willing to sleep in it. By now it is almost 9pm. I go close and lock the door with the key, take a bath, and return to my room and close the door behind me. (I have a habit of closing doors when I leave a room.) All of the sudden I hear the back door open LOUDLY and someone running all through the house, but I hear no talking or yelling, just running. They run from the back door to the front going through every room, and on the way back they turn down the hallway to my room and stop at the door and shake the handle.
At this point, I am still thinking that someONE is in the house. BUT, I have no gun. I DO, however, own a sword. A really sharp one from my martial arts days, and I know how to use it effectively. So, I warn the person on the other side of the door to leave because I am about to open the door and if they are standing there, they are about to be cut in half. The door handle shakes, but just a little. I take the latch from the door, open it, and swing the blade. It passes straight through what was there. NOTHING! I think they have hidden, so I check the area, then the house. The way I did it, and the fact the floorboards creaked like an old man's knees let me know no one passed me or snuck around me. When I went to the back door it was wide open. The deadbolt lock, that could only be opened (or closed) with a key was still engaged.
I returned to my room in shock, thinking that this MIGHT just be a ghost. I sat in the middle of my bed (doors locked) and making certain my feet did not hang off of the bed,
Then I said aloud, "Ok... ok... you made your point. It's your place. But I want to tell you something. YOUR DEAD! Ok? I am paying rent here and unless you want a priest in here blessing the place and running you out, you're going to quieten down. If you see a light, go to it. If you're not ready to go, don't. But I have NO intentions on going anywhere. This is the cheapest rent in McComb and YOU"RE not paying it. So either "PUT UP or SHUT UP!"
I never heard another noise. NOTHING. BUT my fiancee (now wife) heard walking and had someone (her family from the Philippines) who saw a man standing behind her while she was online. (Someone they could show HER in their cam, but did not show up in OURS). My son, from a previous marriage, had someone touch him on the face while he slept there one night. He didn't visit me again for the 5 months I lived there.
So, haunted? Yep. It's real. I don't care what ANYONE says. You want the address, I can give it to you and you can see the place on Google Maps. Send me a message for the address.
Now for the other story.
I have a student (I am a teacher) who brought me a picture where his family who are all black are playing cards. There was no white person visiting their house that day. In the background of the picture, there is a small white boy that is crouching in the entrance to the room. He looks as if he is trying to hide. Poor kid looks terrified. No one there is noticing him or looking in his direction. The picture could NOT have been faked. (It was a polaroid.) I don't know the address of that residence.
I would ask that you do not contact the people who live there now. I do know them. They do hear the walking and have heard a man's voice. They plan to move when their lease is up. But the kid that lives there is also a student, and I am afraid that it would cause me trouble as a teacher. So, please, don't contact them.
