Why credibility is so important in reporting paranormal events

The credibility of a person is always brought into question when that person reports an unusual event. In the past few posts I had videos in them that showed people being interviewed as the person or persons seeing ghosts or other phenomenon. What went through your minds as you watched them? Were they believable or did they come across as having a screw loose somewhere?
You can see why credibility is so important to a paranormal investigation. Only those people that have a clear mental aptitude and truthful speaking ability should be involved with investigations. You don't want someone who regularly gets drunk every Friday night to conduct an investigation on Saturdays since they would not be thinking clearly. That people would probably not be believed by others if something felt "funny" to him/her during the investigation.
Credibility is very important in most professions and is often the most important part of a paranormal investigator.
